Summer Sisters, a novel by Judy Blume describes the journey of two young girls through life. It was published in 1998 by Dell Publishing, New York. Judy Blume is the author of many successful and best – selling books for kids, teenagers and adults like ‘Are you there, God, It’s me, Margaret’, ‘Forever’, ‘Smart Women’, etc.
The book explains and describes in vivid detail, the journey of two young girls, Victoria Leonard and Caitlin Somers in discovering and experiencing life. Both girls would go away for the summer to an island where they came to learn lessons on love and life – lessons which will forever leave marks on their hearts, meet the love of their lives and where they learned the true meaning of being summer sisters.
Then years later, Caitlin calls up Vix and invites her to be her maid of honor for her wedding at the island. Vix agrees to go for she needs answers, answers as to why her complicated friendship has left her puzzled for years, answers to make her understand this labyrinth, why after all these years, her summer sister still manages to break her heart somehow.
In Summer Sisters, Blume introduces us to unforgettable, memorable and sympathetic characters. It is easy to connect with the characters as Blume’s writing is superb and describes every part of the book in perfect detail. The story takes us through a whirlwind of emotions, which leaves us smiling, laughing, crying and nostalgic till the very last line.
All in all, Summer Sisters is an enjoyable read. It is definitely worth the money and time it takes.
